Janet Adderley

Artistic Director

Janet, a Broadway and television actress, founded THE ADDERLEY SCHOOL FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS in 1993. A Yale University graduate, she made her Broadway debut in the hit Andrew Lloyd Webber musical STARLIGHT EXPRESS and appeared in several television series.

Ms. Adderley has worked extensively coaching young actors for television and film including Modern Family actress, Sarah Hyland, Pitch Perfect star, Ben Platt, Alicia Morton in the lead role of ANNIE for Disney and the Cheetah Girls for their film debut on the Disney channel. She is a resident of Montecito, CA and Austin, TX, and the proud mother of two amazingly gifted daughters.



Co-Artistic Director, Administrative Director, Instructor, Choreographer

Having been raised by a community of performing artists, Alana’s undeniable love of music, theatre, and dance were developed by age five. She began her journey in musical theatre at age eight, having performed in countless musicals – her favorites including CATS (Grizabella), RUTHLESS (Judy Denmark / Ginger DelMarco), INTO THE WOODS (The Witch), PIRATES OF PENZANCE (Mabel), WEST SIDE STORY (Consuelo), CHICAGO (Velma Kelly), and FOSSE A TRIBUTE (Sally Bowles). She has worked as a back-up dancer for Gwen Stefani and a featured dancer in LOVESTRUCK: THE MUSICAL (ABC Family) and ANNIE (the 1999 Disney remake). As a musician, she has performed with several incredibly inspiring artists her most memorable including David Foster, Josh Groban, and Luther Vandross, and worked as a writer with the publishing department at Universal Music.

Although she still performs every now and then, Alana’s true passion lies in the artistic education of children. Their continued growth and the unbridled joy are what make her heart soar!

Musical Director, Band Leader

Akina Adderley is a vocalist, singer, songwriter, bandleader, and educator based out of Austin, Texas, and she is thrilled to join SBYET each year for their spring production. Akina has assembled and conducted the pit orchestra as well as led SBYET’s dazzlingly talented young performers in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, West Side Story, Oliver, Gypsy, and Les Miserables. Akina has been teaching music, drama, choir, voice and piano lessons, and directing children in plays and musicals for over a decade, including two years and several summers at THE ADDERLEY SCHOOL for the Performing Arts. Her training in the  ADDERLEY method  combined with her background in choral conducting and band-leading make her especially well-suited to lead the music in SBYET’s impressive productions.

Akina’s educational background includes a BA from Yale University, graduation from New York’s LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts (“the Fame school”) as a drama major, classical voice training at Manhattan School of Music, and post-bac studies in piano, music theory, and vocal performance at Mannes School of Music and The New School. In Austin, Akina fronts her own 9-piece soul band, Akina Adderley & The Vintage Playboys, sings lead vocals with jazz/folk/world band Nori, and sings backing vocals live and on recordings for a number of local artists. As an educator, Akina is currently the Director of the Fine Arts Department at ACE Academy where she teaches music and drama to gifted learners K-12.



California Administrative Director/Lead Instructor

Laurel has been teaching children for the past 7 years and couldn’t think of a better job! She graduated with her BFA in Musical Theater from California State University, Fullerton. She has taught in the LA, Orange County, and Seattle area. She is incredibly passionate about providing a nurturing and educational environment for children to thrive and discover who they are in. She believes theater skills influence life skills and loves to watch all her kids transform into happy, respectful, creative, confident young adults!



Cassidy Timms is an actor, writer, and director located in Austin, Texas. She studied at Texas State receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting where she had the opportunity to work under people like Bob Krawkower, Christopher Durang, Lauren Lane, The Neo-Futurists, Ethan Sweeney, and plenty more. Most recently Cassidy could have been seen at Frontera Fest in Austin at the Hyde Park Theatre performing in The Tale of The Songbird.

Cassidy has had many wonderful performance opportunities ranging from Mariane in Tartuffe to a devised piece titled The Dream Child, an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, where she portrayed the role of Alice.

Other roles at Texas State include Sally/Sophie in Valhalla, Mother in Final Conversations, and the Porter Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Cassidy also enjoys working on new works and film projects and she has been lucky enough to experience both. Currently, Cassidy is a proud employee at the Adderley Theatre School in Austin, Texas where she teaches little ones (kids ranging from age three to 12) musical theatre




Cailin is a dancer, singer, actress and choreographer. Originally from Longmont, Colorado she made her way out to Los Angeles to attend The American Musical and Dramatic Academy and graduated with her BFA in Musical Theatre. She has been preforming since she was six and some of her favorite roles include The Sound of Music (Liesl/Choreographer), The Nutcracker (Clara), Cinderella (Ella), Annie Get Your Gun (Ensemble), Anything Goes (Ensemble), and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Hermia). Cailin is excited to be joining the Adderley Family and can’t wait to share her passion with the kids.



After studying for many years under the graces of Janet Adderley at the Santa Barbara Adderley School, McCailey is delighted to now share her knowledge with her students. The Idyllwild Arts Academy graduate now lives in New York and studies theater independently.

McCailey splits her time between Manhattan and California so she is able to be a part of our Adderley team while continuing her studies in New York. McCailey cares deeply for the Adderley school and is honored to have been a part of the family for so long.



Amber Hurst Martin is an accomplished singer, actress and performer. Classically trained in music and theater at Fordham College Lincoln Center, she’s traveled the world performing with Jesus Christ Superstar and Disney Cruise Lines. Amber has also taught musical theater at the Harlem School of the Arts and Barnard College’s Girl Scouts program. As an LA-based performer, she has sung at numerous venues around the city including The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and Hotel Cafe. She is currently writing a solo music project and is on tour with the It Gets Better musical, a project of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. The ensemble cast travels the country performing and working with children and communities on issues of bullying. Amber has the distinction of being one of the first female members in its 37 year history.



Fiona is a singer, dancer and choreographer, from Rockland County, New York. She grew up
performing in musicals and studied dance at Ballet Hispanico in NYC. Fiona received her BA in
dance and choreography from Goucher College, in Towson, Maryland. Since graduating she
has taught music and dance at various studios in New York, and has choreographed for
numerous children’s theater groups, including the Helen Hayes Youth Theater and the Lucy
Moses School. Fiona moved to LA in 2014 to pursue a music career with her band, Sikemor,
and has performed at venues in LA such as the Hotel Cafe and The Satellite. She loves
teaching children and strives to always impart the joy and passion she has for music, dance,
and theater to her students.

He earned his B.F.A. from CalArts, where he made the Wild Beast Pavilion concerto premiere with Saint-Saëns’Piano Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, with the CalArts Orchestra. He has studied collaborative piano at SongFest, InnerSpark, Berklee College of Music and Idyllwild Summer Arts Program. He is an active music director, collaborative pianist, arranger, songwriter and vocal coach in Southern California



American tenor Zachary Mendez is a performer of opera and musical theater as well as an avid recording artist. A native of Texas, he is currently pursuing graduate studies at UC Santa Barbara. As a performer he has been featured in various productions in the United States and Europe. Mr. Mendez has appeared as a featured soloist with the Carnegie Mellon Philharmonic and Choirs in CMU’s annual Holiday Concert, broadcast live on WQED Radio. Most recently Zachary sang the role of Captain Macheath in Benjamin Britten’s The Beggar’s Opera at Carnegie Mellon University. In April, 2014 he appeared at Pittsburgh Opera Headquarters singing the role of Narcissus in the original cast of Echo, a new chamber opera by Davis Good. As a recording artist he has produced two studio albums. The second, entitled Dream, is available now on iTunes and CD Baby. Zachary Mendez is a proud graduate of Carnegie Mellon University.



Danny Wirick is a vocalist, keyboardist, composer, and arranger in Los Angeles, He graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Music in Popular Music Performance, and a minor in Music Industry.

A northern California native, Danny has served as a music director and pianist for Broadway Bound Kids Musical Theater Company in Sonoma and Marin counties for eight years, He has shared stages with icons like John Fogerty and Chaka Khan, recorded at Capitol Records, and performed at such venues as The Troubadour, The El Rey Theatre, and Dodger stadium. Most recently, Danny has toured internationally as a back-up vocalist and keyboardist. He performs at venues all over the Los Angeles area and teaches voice and piano lessons.



Born and raised in Germany, Christian has been playing the piano since the age of 5. For 20 years he has been a musical director and musician throughout Europe and North and South America for such musicals as JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT, Disney’s THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (World Premiere Berlin, Germany), CATS (Berlin, Germany and North and South American Tour), JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, CAMELOT, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, AIDA (Europe), WEST SIDE STORY (US Tour), CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG (US Tour), EVITA (US Tour), AVENUE Q (Cupcake Theatre Hollywood). Recently, Christian could be heard playing at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles in shows including WICKED, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and MAMMA MIA. He is now playing in the pit for the Broadway revival of CATS.
Christian holds degrees in Applied Piano Performance and Music Education from the Folkwang University in Essen, Germany.



Judy was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and began playing the piano as a toddler. She went on to attend the prestigious Juilliard School of Music and later received her Bachelors degree in Music from SMU in Dallas, Texas. After her schooling, Judy moved to Los Angeles. Immediately she began musically assisting the likes of Michael Kidd, Gower Champion, Tommy Tune, Ron Field, Joe Layton, and Michael Bennett. At the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera she worked on many of the great American musicals produced by Impresario Edwin Lester.

Among them were ANNIE GET YOUR GUN with Debbie Reynolds, MY FAIR LADY with Douglas Fairbanks Jr., CAMELOT with Robert Goulet and Carol Lawrence, OLIVER with Karen Morrow, and MY ONE AND ONLY with Tommy Tune and Lucy Arnaz. Her television credits include Sun City Scandals with Johnny Carson, Hallmark Hall of Fame, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Pinocchio with Danny Kaye, Sandy Duncan, and Charlotte Ray.


Musical Arrangement & Trumpet Player

Erik Telford is an award-winner composer and trumpeter based in Austin, TX and a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. He has performed as a leader or sideman on four continents with artists such as Bill Berry, George Bohannan, Maria Schneider, Joshua Redman, James Williams, Elias Haslanger, Jon Faddis, Wynton Marsalis, and Louie Bellson. He has been an artist at the Monterey, Montreux, North Sea, Melbourne, and Yokohama Honmoku jazz festivals.

Erik has been working with Santa Barbara Youth Ensemble Theatre and THE ADDERLEY SCHOOL for over 5 years.


Raquel Do Carmo
Part-time Administrative Assistant at Santa Barbara Studio

Raquel graduated with a BA in Advertising/Public Relations from Grand Valley State University in Michigan and completed a MA in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, in Carpinteria, CA, in 2014. She has worked as an Office Manager for seven years and as a psychotherapy intern for four. She is passionate about musical theater and is thrilled to be putting her administrative and organization skills to great use with the wonderful Adderley families and kids!
